This is an opportunity for non-profits to share updates, successes and challenges, and to connect with resources at the Area Foundation. Non-profits awarded grants through the Responsive process are required to submit annual reports through the online grant portal. Multi-year funding is a commitment to provide grant funds over two or more years. In the case of the Responsive Grant, non-profits are awarded a 3-year grant contingent on availability of funds and fulfillment of grant requirements, including annual reports. Although there is not a grant process underway for Cultural Vibrancy, Livable and Resilient Communities, Successful Aging, and Youth Success, Program officers are available to meet with nonprofit partners. Program Officers will provide guidance on our processes and answer questions about what the San Antonio Area Foundation has to offer and how we might be able to work together.

The Responsive Grants category is deliberately broad, allowing the Asia Program to respond to new ideas and keep abreast of trends, needs and priorities relevant to Asia-focused work in our three grantmaking areas (academic work, foreign policy, public education). The Asia Program primarily awards grants to colleges, universities, think tanks, museums, and other non-profit organizations based in the United States, while recognizing the need to support the growing capacity and increasing desire for knowledge creation within Asia. General operating support, also known as an unrestricted grant, can be used to cover any of a non-profit’s expenses, with a few exceptions (see “What we do not fund”). The Area Foundation believes that non-profits know best how to allocate grant funds to support their mission and impact, and general operating support provides flexibility to respond to evolving needs of the organization.

The site visit allows Foundation staff and trustees to better understand the request for funding, and usually takes the form of a brief in-person meeting at the location where the funding will be used. An application may only be submitted online during the specified date range. It is designed to help the Foundation determine whether the request is a good match for the Foundation’s present interests and funds.
